Hello WFTGA Members around the world (currently 105 countries!)
Success to report! EN15565:2008 has been ratified in Europe as it stands – just confirmed.
The fear was that it might disappear! But this norm or standard which deals with the basic requirements recommended for a full tourist guide training course has been upheld.
As you know this is one of two standards we also follow and uphold within the WFTGA. The first one was adopted in 2003 and is a definition of tourist guide. This second one adopted in 2008 is about training tourist guides.
With thanks to the joint effort of FEG and WFTGA members (Ros, Efi, Mark and others who asked their national standardisation organisations to sign in favour) we can achieve mobilisation!
When associations ask ‘why join the WFTGA’, the answer becomes tangible at times like these. Together we are one voice, and our volunteers who represent us all, speak on behalf of us all with all stakeholders in the tourism industry worldwide. They reach people and places that individual guides on their own often can’t access. They spread the message of professionalism and standards everywhere they go on behalf of all of us. And as we all know, what a guide does or does not do in one corner of the globe, will have an effect on whether a visitor hires my professional guiding services in another corner of the globe – we are interdependent!
With very best wishes
